By gently pulling and releasing the string wrapped up in “the mill” (the oval egg shaped part of this toy), in a continuous manner, you will easily make the three propellers above the mill spin in a most marvellous manner. “Mills” such as these were very popular as early as the fifteenth century and are as intriguing to day as they were then.
