I think that this chair is a brilliant casting choice; its design perfectly mirrors Carrie's emotional state in this scene in the movie, and provides welcome shelter to her, even as Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte soak in the sun. In my interview with production designer Jeremy Conway, he told me that the wicker egg chair was from an outdoor furniture store in Los Angeles, where the Mexico vacation scenes were shot. However, if you're coveting this chair and aren't in LA, I have another source for you, which I'll tell you about when you read more.(link)

Le traité Hay-Bunau-Varilla est signé le 18 novembre 1903 (deux semaines après l'indépendance de Panamá vis-à-vis de la Colombie) entre l'ingénieur français Philippe Bunau-Varilla et le secrétaire d'État américain John Hay.

Par ce traité, les États-Unis achètent la concession, les actions et les avoirs de la Compagnie nouvelle du canal de Panamá pour 40 millions de dollars.

Surnommé « le traité qu'aucun Panaméen a signé », cet accord est finalement accepté par le Panamá. Contre un paiement de 10 millions de dollars et une rente annuelle de 250 000 dollars, Panamá laisse aux États-Unis les droits à perpétuité sur le canal et sur une zone large de 8 kilomètres de chaque côté du tracé du canal.

Après de nombreuses protestations et négociations depuis les années 1970, le contrôle complet du canal par le Panama n'est acquis que le 31 décembre 1999.

Le titre de propriété américaine sur le canal a fait l'objet de nombreuses contestations dans les années 1970. Des négociations aboutirent à la signature, le 7 septembre 1977, du Traités de Torrijos-Carter signé par le président américain Jimmy Carter et le dirigeant panaméen Omar Torrijos : il mena au contrôle complet du canal par le Panamá le 31 décembre 1999.

Le canal est maintenant dirigé par l'Autorité du canal de Panamá.
