Petaluma, USA

Petaluma is located just 32 miles north of San Francisco in the gorgeous Sonoma Valley Wine Country, California, USA
Petaluma was founded in 1852 and became not only the largest -but- the wealthiest town in Sonoma.
Petaluma’s poultry industry dates back to 1858, however, it wasn't until 1875 that business soared.
Canadian born, Petaluman Lyman C. Byce invented the first practical chicken incubator and Petaluma became rich. From the late 1800s and through the 1940s, hundreds of chicken farms were established in the Petaluma Valley and profits from the egg business poured into the town.
At one time, Petaluma was known as the "Chicken Capital of the World" or the "World's Egg Basket".
It was also known as the home of the world's first and only chicken pharmacy and featured in National Geographic and in Ripley's Believe or Not.
A National Egg Day was launched on August 13, 1918 and was celebrated each year until 1926. Festivities included a parade led by the Egg Queen with her court of attendant chicks, a Chicken Rodeo and an egg Queen Ball.

$100,000,000,000!

So what does $100,000,000,000 bill get you in Zimbabwe these days? The answer, predictably, is not much — according to Reuters, a single egg in Harare now costs $35-billion. Haggle the vendor down $5-billion, and you've got yourself three eggs in exchange for the world's largest bank note in circulation. (More)

Tossed salads and Scrambled Eggs

My favorite sitcoms of all times was definitely Frasier.
Dr. Frasier Crane left the friendly ambience of Boston's Cheers and established himself in a new live in Seattle, as a radio psychiatrist.
After 9 seasons in Cheers and another 11 in Frasier, Dr. Frasier Krane, played by actor Kelsey Grammer, became the longest-running character on prime-time American television.

What does all this have to do with eggs? Well, the iconic theme song, of course:
Hey baby, I hear the blues a-callin'. Tossed salad and scrambled eggs
Oh My! Mercy! (alt: Quite stylish.)
And maybe I seem a bit confused, yeah maybe, but I got you pegged!
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!
But I don’t know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs.
They’re callin’ again.
(The following are the various alternate endings)
They’re callin’ again.
Good night, Seattle, we love you!
What is a boy to do. Good night.
Frasier has left the building.
Thank You!
Scrambled eggs all over my face. What is a boy to do. Good night, everybody.
See you next year, we love ya.
Listen here.
If you cannot makeout the meaning of the song, here is some help.

“Boiling an egg isn’t rocket science …”
1: Measure food source size and weight. Measure food source shell thickness to one one thousanths of a micron tolerance.
2: Precisely measure pre purified and pre heated liquid medium into container of known cubic capacity.
3: Re test current heat of liquid medium and calculate the required heat to be applied over set time.
4: Precisely position container on heating device to within one nanometer of previously used co-ordinates.
5: Apply heat...constantly monitoring heat source for any variances to within one millijule and, at precisely the same instant, start atomic timing device.
6: Vary heat source using data collected from numerous sensors mounted in container at varying heights to allow for differences of density in liquid medium and plotted movement of food source.
7: At the exact assigned time for boiling medium to boil the food source to the required consistency heat is turned off.
8: Instantaneously the container is removed from the heat source to a cooling station to prevent further boiling. A purified cooling medium is applied to the container in an accurately metered dosage.

Walking on Eggs (Aertsen)
Egg dancing was a popular game played during the springtime folk festivities. First a chalk circle was drawn on the floor. Then, accompanied by bagpipe music, the player would use his feet to roll an egg out of a bowl, keeping it inside the circle, and turn the bowl upside down on top of the egg. All this had to be done without touching the flowers, leaves or anything else - and of course the egg had to remain whole. The first to succeed would win a prize: usually a basket of eggs. Here the basket is shown in the foreground.

- Categoria A ou “ovos frescos”, podendo ser subdividida consoante o peso do ovo (XL-gigante-73g; L-grande-63/73g; M-médio-53/63g e S-pequeno-menos de 53g);

Potato Priest vs. the Egg

He feared it - feared that unspeakable yolk, that glistening white - but he had learned to conquer the fear. He was a monk. He had recited the seven mantras and performed the eighteen meditations, and he was as ready as one could hope to be.
He searched his heart and found only the emptiness of enlightenment, and so he faced it boldly, this lightly fried horror, this sunny-side-up invader from beyond the stars.
Soon, one of them would have breakfast.

Egg in London ?
"30 St Mary Axe, also known as the Gherkin and formerly the Swiss Re Building, is a skyscraper in London's main financial district, the City of London, completed in December 2003 and opened on 28 April 2004. It is 180 meters (591 ft) tall, with 40 floors. Its construction symbolised the start of a new high-rise construction boom in London. The building's name is its address, St Mary Axe being the street it is on. The building was designed by Lord Norman Foster."
Egg shaped.... or maybe not.....
"The gherkin [(French cornichon) is a small cucumber type vegetable] name dates back to at least 1999, referring to that plan's highly unorthodox layout. Due to the current building's somewhat phallic appearance, other inventive names have also been used for the building, including the Erotic Gherkin, the Towering Innuendo, and the Crystal Phallus."

Linz, European Capital of Culture 2009
In 2009, Linz is the European Capital of Culture and a host within Europe.
The capital of the Province of Upper Austria is situated astride the Danube. With a population of 190,000, Linz is Austria's third largest city and links the Mühlviertel region that stretches north to the Czech border with the rolling hills that extend to the Austrian Alps in the south. The Linz Metropolitan Area is the hub of a thriving regional economy; the number of jobs in Linz exceeds the city's population. Here, technology, industry and high ecological standards are no contradiction: Linz is one of Austria's most environmentally-friendly communities with green spaces making up 60% of the city. Linking up industry, culture and nature will play an essential role in the Linz09 programme.
