Tea eggs

Tea egg is a typical Chinese savory snack commonly sold by street vendors or in night markets in most Chinese communities throughout the world.

Tea eggs are simply hard-boiled eggs that have been further stewed in a salted tea liquid. Other flavourings such as soy sauce and Chinese five-spice powder are often added as well. The eggs are actually boiled twice. After the first boiling, when the insides are hardened, the shell of each egg is lightly cracked. The eggs are then boiled for much longer duration in the black tea mixture for a second time, which allows the flavour of the tea to penetrate deep into the egg. The dark colour of the tea also stains through the cracks of the eggs creating a pattern on the peeled eggs that resembles the crazing of some ceramic glaze surfaces.

Another method used to make tea eggs is to, instead of keeping the eggs shell on (but cracked) is to simply take off the eggs shell and boil it into the tea mixture. This method, however, is not as beautiful but does consume less time. Most people would only use this method in a informal setting, when they don't have much time. Some people simply just leave the egg (with its shell on) floating in the tea mixture several hours before planned so the tea can be absorbed and warm it up by boiling the water on high heat when ready to eat.

Shamanic Egg Cleansing
For the first time, this ancient shamanic healing method is now being shared. Shamanic Egg Cleansing offers everything you need to know to conduct your own egg cleansings.

Egg cleansings are a unique shamanic healing form which use an egg and smoke to energetically cleanse a client's aura and to help them on their healing path. After a session, the egg is dropped into water and read. True seers have the ability to see the client, enabling the seer to facilitate the client's understanding and ability to work with their own life issues.

Egg cleansings are common throughout central and south America, but rarely seen elsewhere. Until now, this ancient technique has not been shared. Kalyn makes egg cleansings easy to understand, enabling you to perform the energetic healing technique yourself.

"A seemingly light, mystical and fun experience, egg cleansings are powerful and transformational. They work with nature to restore a place of balance and connection for us. Clients that receive multiple healings sessions are literally lifted to a new place- their vibration is continuously lifted through this ancient healing form. In this lifted state, clients are healthier, feel more powerful and more capable in life." - Kalyn

What's this giant fried egg doing on a beach in Sydney, Australia? It's a display at the Sculpture by the Sea Sydney and Perth 'Sculpture by the Sea' exhibition is Australia's largest annual outdoor sculpture exhibition.
2006 was the tenth year it showed off the beautiful work of both Australian and overseas artists in spectacular Australian Coastal locations. exhibition, which took place last November, Australian artist Jeremy Parnell created the sunny side up egg sculpture--called Big Chock--out of fiberglass and glossy, waterproof paint. The word "chock" is slang in Australia for "chicken" Parnell got his inspiration from watching people "frying" themselves on the beach to get a suntan. Although Parnell's idea for his sculpture may make you laugh, Sun tanning describes a darkening of the skin (especially of fair-skinned individuals) in a natural physiological response stimulated by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunshine (or a sunbed). With excess exposure to the sun, a suntanned area can also develop sunburn. is really no joke. Exposure to the sun's ultraviolet. An invisible band of radiation at the upper end of the visible light spectrum. With wavelengths from 10 to 400 nm, ultraviolet starts at the end of visible light and ends at the beginning of X-rays. The primary source of ultraviolet light is the sun. radiation can damage skin cells, and can lead to skin cancer.

Užupis - o anjo ou o ovo?

Užupis is a is a district of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Its name means "on the other side of a river"; that river is the Vilnia River which gave Vilnius its name. The region has been popular with artists for some time, and is often compared with Montmartre in Paris. The district houses art galleries, artists' workshops, and popular cafés. The district declared itself an independent republic (the Republic of Užupis) in 1997.

On April 4th 2001, a statue of an angel blowing a trumpet was unveiled in the main square. It is intended to symbolize the revival and artistic freedom of the district.
Before the permanent angel sculpture was put in place, a temporary sculpture of an egg stood as a placeholder. The egg itself became the subject of much talk, and various anecdotes are attached to it. After being removed to make way for the larger statue, the egg was sold in an auction for 10,200 litas

The phenomenon of octuplets

A set of octuplets has been born in California, a decade after a Nigerian woman became the first to deliver eight living babies into the world.

How rare is this?

Very rare indeed. There are just a handful of recorded cases involving eight or even nine babies, and there are no such sets where all have survived.
The largest multiple birth we know about was nonuplets in Australia in 1971 - all died within six days.
There are serious risks associated with multiple birthsA Turkish woman lost her eight babies in 1985, a British woman hers in 1996.
The first octuplets to survive were born in 1998 - one died a week later but the other seven are now healthy 10-year-olds.
If all these babies born in California survive, they will be the first to do so.

How does it happen?
It is very unusual for such pregnancies to occur naturally.
Pregnancies involving large numbers of babies are usually the result of fertility drugs aimed at stimulating the number of eggs a woman releases.
Women are usually closely monitored to ensure too many eggs are not produced: if they are, she is generally advised to abstain from sex or use contraception to avoid the possibility of multiple births.

Aquela máquina!

Japan didn't invent the vending machine, but it's perhaps in Japan that the humble vending machine reaches its apotheosis. According to Wikipedia, "Japan has the highest number of vending machines per capita, with about one machine for every 23 people". They're very popular indeed (although some love them perhaps a little too much). All sorts of goodies can be purchased, often 24/7 and almost you-name-it.

You may be travelling along, craving an omelette, when up pops this little yellow shed full of fresh eggs – kept in air-conditioned egg-comfort. Perfect – and only 300 yen. Now you just have to find someplace to cook them.

Egg Island

Egg Island is an uninhabited island, officially an islet, comprising 800 m² in the Bahamas. The island has become home to chickens owned by residents of other nearby islands who travel here to collect the eggs. Hence the name, Egg Island.
The island has a crescent shaped beach that is protected by a reef that protects the entire beach. The water behind the reef is generally less than 2 m deep making it a good place to swim or watch the sea life. Since the water is so shallow and well protected, it tends to be warmer then the surrounding sea.

Egg Island gained some fame in the 1980s when some suggested that this was the place where Columbus first landed in the New World. Off of the island is the wreck of the Arimoroa.

The Great Egg Race

From a 1985 episode of BBC's The Great Egg Race hosted by Professor Heinz Wolff. Three teams competed to create various special effects during three acts of a play called 'Dastardly Deeds at Eggraze Hall' starring Hal Dyer (Rentaghost) and John Leeson (voice of 'K9' in Doctor Who). These are parts 1 and 2 of that play:

Easy opening

Hexus lifestyle:

The idea arose, according to its London-based inventor Hugo Frazer, for the very reason you'd imagine - because of his frustration at being unable to open eggs without spilling their contents everywhere or breaking the yolk. Or both.

And, rather modestly, Frazer reckons that an idea that at first might seem like an impossibility actually turned out to be relatively straightforward to achieve using a combination of nanotechnology and lateral thinking.

Frazer, who is best know for his development work on something rather bigger - those giant wind-turbines you see on hilltops and seashores - says that nanotechnology lets the company seamlessly lay down a small area of artificial shell ON TOP of the original - and one that is sufficiently deep to accommodate the ring-pull mechanism.

Doing things that way makes the ring-pull addition non-invasive and thus doesn't add any health risks or in any way lessen the egg's shelf-life.

With the technology worked out, the problem that remained was of cost - an egg is relatively cheap to buy and thus not something where it's possible to add much cost to the production without making it totally unaffordable.

Fortunately, though, according to Frazer, the very fact that ring-pulls have been in mass production for so long has worked in his company's favour - costs are already very low. Even so Egcellent Ideas has concentrated its first efforts on premium-priced egg products where a little additional on-cost (about 3p for 10 eggs) won't, proportionately, have a big effect on the retail bottom line.

No, we didn't know there were such things as "premium-priced" egg products either but seemingly there are, and plenty of them, including duck eggs, goose eggs, swan eggs and salted eggs - as favoured in Chinese and Thai cooking - with prices that are higher still if the eggs are produced organically.

The new rotten egg gas japanese suicide method epidemic
The increasing use of such poisonous gas to commit suicide has received much media attention in Japan in recent months, after websites showed methods of creating the gas with bathroom cleansers. Ad hoc internet sites that function as suicide bulletin boards have “advertised” hydrogen sulphide as a quicker, less complicated method of ending it all. In one recent posting, “Mr Nameless” advises: “A new suicide method has been developed as an alternative to charcoal suicide. Hydrogen sulfide gas is colourless and characterized by an odour similar to that of rotten eggs. When inhaled, it can lead to suffocation…

Prince Charles's secret EGG obsession

"As the king-in-waiting, Prince Charles devotes countless hours to pondering the most important issues of the day.

And none require quite so much attention, it seems, as the issue of whether his boiled eggs are cooked to perfection.

Charles, who is particularly fond of a boiled egg after a day's hunting, is so picky that his staff cook seven eggs ranging from runny to rock hard, which the Prince tests before choosing his favourite.
The revelation is one of a series of fascinating insights into the Royal household contained in a new book by the BBC's arch inquisitor Jeremy Paxman, which is serialised in the Daily Mail next week.
Paxman says in his book, On Royalty: "Because his staff were never quite sure whether the egg would be precisely to the satisfactory hardness, a series of eggs was cooked, and laid out in an ascending row of numbers.
"If the Prince felt that number five was too runny, he could knock the top off number six or seven."
Exactly what happens to the six rejected eggs, Paxman does not divulge. "

Melancholic Eggs

"I can suck melancholy out of a song as a weasel sucks eggs."
Wiiliam Shakespeare - As You Like It, 2. 5

Originally published in Swedish in 1992, As a Weasel Sucks Eggs examines the enigmatic relation of melancholia to an early kind of cannibalism, which psychoanalysis, in particular, stressed. It contains reading of, amongst others, Franz Kafka, Samuel Beckett, Thomas Bernhard, Sigmund Freud, G. W. F. Hegel, and the Swedish poet Gunnar Ekelöf. The authors also quote Goethe and Rabelais, for whom food is a cosmic principle, the soil of fertility, on which all creation is based.
In a transferred sense, food also plays that same role for the melancholiac—he who questions the normal order of things, who creates an other “unknown food,” with a variety of meanings. The authors “trace the desire for this other food through the ages, and scrutinize its relationship to both primitive sacrificial rites as well as contemporary anthropology, philosophy, and linguistic theory.”

OVAL Office

The Oval Office is the official office of the President of the United States. Created in 1909 as part of an overall expansion of the West Wing of the White House during the administration of William Howard Taft, the office was inspired by the elliptical Blue Room.
Though architect James Hoban's original design for the White House included two oval rooms, the idea of an oval office did not come about until 1909.

An oval interior space is a Baroque concept that was adapted by Neoclassicism. Oval rooms became popular in eighteenth century neoclassical architecture, and it is considered likely that Hoban was influenced by the elliptical chamber at Castle Coole in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. That room has identical dimensions, and includes the two recessed niches found in Hoban's original design for the Blue Room. The "elliptic salon"—in the form of the Blue Room and Yellow Oval Room—was the outstanding feature of James Hoban's original plan of the White House.

Chinesices

Children at a Chinese junior school have each been given a pet egg - to encourage them to play less boisterously.
Pupils at Jinkangyuan elementary school in Kunming city have been told to keep their eggs with them at all times. Teachers came up with the idea because too many youngsters were getting hurt through playing rough games at playtime.

“Out of concern for the safety of students we came up with the idea of letting them raise eggs,” a school spokesman told Life News Daily.
Each pupil has to write down the date he or she started keeping the egg with the one keeping it the longest without breaking it being named the ‘Egg Star’.

“We’ve also set up inspection teams to make sure they have the eggs on them all the time. And each class has to count the eggs at least once a day,” added the spokesman.
“Now the children are more careful all the time. There’s no chasing, no fighting, no jumping, no dashing. Even when they’re walking up the stairs they’re careful.”

Annie Hall (the ending)

After that it got pretty late, and we both had to go, but it was great seeing Annie again. I... I realized what a terrific person she was, and... and how much fun it was just knowing her; and I... I, I thought of that old joke, y'know, the, this... this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships; y'know, they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... but, uh, I guess we keep goin' through it because, uh, most of us... need the eggs.
