Les services de géophysique de la SN Repal* et de la CFP(A)*, dirigés respectivement par Jacques Cholet et Gilbert Pommier, avaient tracé deux profils qui se croisaient, une amorce de structure sud-ouest/nord-est.
En 1956, deux profils de réfraction permirent de "fermer" la structure qui prenait l’allure d’une bosse du socle de plus de 100 km de grand axe, aussitôt baptisée "l’œuf de Pommier" par les géologues de la CFP(A), peut-être l’appelait-on "l’œuf de Cholet" chez nos associés... ?

[...] La carotte sortie se révéla entièrement imprégnée d’huile et de gaz.
[...] "L’œuf de Pommier" préfigurait déjà, sur la foi de deux, puis quatre profils sismiques, le contour réel du gisement d’Hassi Messaoud, établi plus tard d’après les résultats d’une multitude de forages.

In english, "you have egg on your face" means you feel embarrassed or stupid because of something wrong you've done or said.

There seem to be two theories about "egg on one's face."

John Ciardi, traces the phrase back to the days when discontented theater audiences routinely pelted substandard performers with household refuse, including overripe vegetables and rotten eggs. One problem with this theory is that "to have egg on one's face" is apparently a fairly recent invention, first found in print in the mid-20th century, long after such demonstrative form.

A more likely explanation would be that the phrase refers to traces of egg unknowingly left on a diner's face after breakfast, to be noticed only later and after, perhaps, greeting one's boss or another important person.

As a result of this encounter with the floating stones, Viktor Schauberger began to realise that there were other forms which could enhance the movement of water, the egg being one of the most important, since eggs or egg-shaped bodies would appear to have a certain connection with vortical motion. A simple experiment gives an idea of what is here involved.

So as to make the experiment as fair as possible and to be able to compare the action of an egg-shaped body with that of another, a sphere - for example, a ping-pong ball - is filled with saline solution weighing slightly more than the specific weight of the contents of the egg, preferably a bantam's egg with similar surface area, in order to offset the lighter specific weight of the plastic shell vis-a-vis that of the heavier egg-shell. As the water in the cylindrical measuring jar (fig. 11.1) is stirred with a rod, the ping-pong ball just wobbles about at the bottom. It exhibits no quick tendency to rise, but will eventually do so if the stirring is vigorous enough.

However, when an egg, which has a natural tendency to spin on its longitudinal axis, is used instead, it rises very quickly and will stay at the top of the jar for as long as the stirring action is maintained, which once the egg has been raised can be considerably slowed. It could therefore be mooted that a sphere, which is not a natural form, is not particularly attuned to vortical motion.

In 2001 Hoffman-La Roche's drug Accutane was selling in its billions worldwide as a treatment for acne. For those who suffered from extreme scarring acne, it was something of a miraculous treatment, however evidence started to mount that for others it was a death sentence. Over the next few years it was estimated that between 300 and 3,000 young people being prescribed Accutane since its launch had committed suicide or killed others.

In 2001 the father of young man in Ireland who had committed suicide approached Dr. Doug Bremner as Professor of Psychiatry & Radiology at Emory University to see if he could find a causal link between the drug and depression. His findings were that the drug did have an effect on the brain likely to cause acute depression in some patients, which was not surprising as it is a molecular cousin of Vitamin A which is known to cause depression in excessive quantities.

One might think that Hoffman-La Roche would have welcomed these findings. After all, no-one was doubting that Accutane was an extremely effective remedy in many cases, it was just that it appeared to have lethal side-effects in others.

You might like to think again on that one.

"The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg" is the account of what Hoffman-La Roche did next, which was to prosecute a determined, energetic and vindictive campaign against Dr. Bremner designed to suppress his findings and destroy his career and livelihood.

Nonetheless, Dr. Bremner persisted and Hoffman-La Roche have since withdrawn Accutane from the US market, not only for its potentially depressive effects, but also for the likelihood of its causing birth defects and stunting growth.

Imaginez que votre tête un œuf. Elle peut s'écraser à tout moment. Comment envisagez-vous les cours d'éducation physique avec des jeux de balle ? Comment envisagez-vous une promenade dans une forêt de pins (avec les cônes qui tombent) ? Ou un tour de vélo dans le trafic routier ? Pas très bien n'est-ce pas ?
Tout cela est étrange.

La tête de Odd est réellement un œuf.
Tous les matins, il l'emballe dans des serviettes pour éviter qu'elle ne se casse. En éducation physique, il reste à l'écart, et il se promène dans la forêt avec un parapluie en forme de cône.
Mais il rencontre l'étrange Gunn, avec qui il peut enfin jouer. Elle n'a pas peur de rien, ou presque. Mais pourquoi porte-t-elle un costume d'abeille ? Et pourquoi disparait-elle si soudainement ? Et, plus important encore, va-t-elle accepter le pot de miel que Odd a acheté pour elle ?
C'est l'histoire d'un Odd terrifié qui se transforme totalement quand il tombe amoureux…

Un œuf blanc contre la malchance

Il vous faut un œuf blanc frais avant midi mais vous ne pouvez pas l’acheter !
Placez votre œuf dans un sac en tissu blanc fermé par un ruban noir, puis mettez le sac sous votre lit.
Pendant neuf soirs consécutifs vous devrez faire votre demande à l’œuf .

Avant de vous coucher, vous devez ouvrir le sac, prendre l’œuf et le frotter sur votre corps.
Une fois terminé, replacez l’œuf dans le sac. Prenez alors une grande inspiration et soufflez trois fois dans le sac en visualisant la malchance qui quitte votre corps pour intégrer le corps et le cœur de l’œuf.

Refermez aussitôt le sac et remettez-le sous votre lit.
Au bout de neuf jours, prenez le sac avec l’œuf et déposez-le à l’extérieur de votre maison, dans un jardin ou une forêt à l’abri des regards.
Prenez garde impérativement à ne pas briser l’œuf !
Ne rouvrez absolument pas le sac, et partez sans le regarder.
Il se peut que le sac bouge avant la fin du rituel sous votre lit, qu’il se trouve à une autre place. Si c’est le cas dès le lendemain, assurez vous de briser l’œuf sans le sortir du sac et de jeter dans un cours d’eau.

L’Œuf met en scène plusieurs symboles légendaires de St. Petersbourg; la Pointe d’Amirauté, les Colonnes de Rostral, l’Arc de l’Etat-major et les ponts célèbres qui s’ouvrent la nuit afin de permettre le passage des grands vaisseaux, tous brillent de mille feux grâce aux diamants.
L'ancre d'Ulysse Nardin sert à supporter l'œuf par sa base de marbre blanc.

Most Tesla's experiments and scientific activities are too complicated for amateur scientists. However, his Egg of Columbus demonstration is appropriate for science hobbyists and advanced science fair projects.

The egg of Columbus or Columbus's egg usually means an idea or discovery that seems simple or easy after the fact.

The expression refers to a popular story of how Columbus, having been told that discovering the Americas was no great accomplishment, challenged his critics to make an egg stand on its tip; and, after they gave up, he did it himself by tapping the egg on the table so as to flatten its tip.

Tesla's Egg of Columbus, basically, is a metal egg that stands on end in a rotating magnetic field.

Nikola Tesla, at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, demonstrated a device he constructed known as the "Egg of Columbus". It was used to demonstrate and explain the principles of the rotating magnetic field model and the induction motor. Tesla's Egg of Columbus performed the feat of Columbus with a copper egg in a rotating magnetic field. The egg spins on its major axis, standing on end due to gyroscopic action.

L'Œuf de Colomb (Egg of Columbus) de Nicolas Tesla exposé lors de l'exposition de 1893 à Chicago USA.

Cet "œuf" a été présenté pour expliquer le principe du courant alternatif au public, alors qu'Edison et les premières sociétés de production d'électricité derrière lui prônaient plutôt le courant continu. Cette démonstration expliquait ainsi le moteur à induction et les champs magnétiques rotatifs.
Une copie de cet engin est actuellement présenté au musée Nikola Tesla de Belgrade.
